Herkimer Diamond Double-terminated quartz crystals are Herkimer diamonds. These were discovered within exposed outcrops of dolomite. This was in and around Herkimer County, this is how the diamonds got their name. The reason this gemstone is called a diamond is because of its clarity and natural faceting.
